Elder Care Homecare Opens Its Doors And Hearts
(July 7th, 2009) Caring for an aging loved one can be challenging. Between caring for your immediate family, working and handling the stresses of everyday life, looking after an aging loved one with health issues is for many a task that requires outside support.

That’s why Loren Gilberg, RN, BSW, MBA, CMS, a registered nurse with more than twenty-five years of experience in geriatric care founded Elder Care Homecare Inc. She saw the growing need for her senior clients to receive quality care while maintaining their quality of life.

“As a geriatric care manager, I was seeing more and more seniors needing home care. With the aging population living longer and longer it has become a fact of life that at some point in everyone’s life, they will need care within the home,” said Gilberg. This also applies to someone who isn’t a senior, but may become disabled at some point. “I’m proud to provide a quality home care service that is individualized to meet the needs of each client and allows a person to reside with dignity and comfort in their own home,” she added.

In home health care will become a necessity for many older Americans. According to the Administration on Aging, by 2030, there will be about 71.5 million older persons, more than twice their number in 2000. People 65+ represented 12.4% of the population in the year 2000, but are expected to grow to be 20% of the population by 2030.

In addition to providing RN and LPN services, Elder Care Homecare Inc. provides paraprofessionals, Home Health Aides and Personal Care Aides who work under the direction of their Registered Nurses.

They provide:
• Long or short-term care in the home
• Hourly, daily or round-the-clock care
• Skilled nursing care
• Professional case management and coordination of services-scheduling,
doctor’s appointments, transportation, etc.
• Medication reminders
• Personal care-bathing, grooming, dressing
• Compassionate companionship
• Chore services-light housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, shopping

Starting a home health care business was the natural next step for Gilberg who founded Elder Care Consulting Inc., a successful Geriatric Care Management practice ten years ago. This practice handles everything from assuring that a person is eating properly and getting the appropriate medical care to arranging for legal and financial services. By serving as the family’s eyes and ears, a GCM provides peace of mind to the client and the family by helping clients maintain their quality of life, independence and personal dignity by carefully assessing their needs and providing the most desirable, yet cost-effective solutions while closely monitoring programs.

As a Geriatric Care Management company, Elder Care Consulting Inc. helps identify and evaluate all options, including public care options which most people are not aware of, often saving them money and anxiety. If necessary, the company assists in selecting the most appropriate assisted living facility and/or nursing home suitable for the client’s specific circumstances and assists in making all arrangements for the relocation.

“Our Registered and Licensed Practical Nurses provide everything from monitoring disease progression to ensuring clients are following a proper diet to safety-proofing a home environment,” said Gilberg.

In addition to her medical expertise, Ms. Gilberg has a Masters Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. A resident of Scarsdale, she is a Board member of the Visiting Nurse Services of Westchester and the United Way and has worked closely with the Alzheimer’s Association. Affiliated with close to a dozen healthcare organizations, she has been featured on Bloomberg Cable News, News 12-Westchester and has had numerous articles published on elder care issues. Ms. Gilberg has served as a keynote speaker before the National Association of Elder Care Attorneys and regularly speaks before various regional senior organizations.

Ms. Gilberg intends to make her new home care agency a shining example of how to provide very high quality home care at very affordable prices. “I believe quality healthcare should be available to all people, especially our elders,” she added.

Elder Care Homecare Inc. serves nine counties, including Westchester, Nassau, Suffolk and the Bronx.
